It's a blast. My Nova has a Turbo'd LQ4 with a manual valve body 400 behind it and I wouldn't want it any other way. The only difference I need to make is add a brake and a bump box.

Wasn't to concerned during the one year warranty period (two if you purchase their converter), they do offer a $1,100 refresh after the warranty. Next week I'm doing aftermarket cylinder heads and I'll be even more gun shy with the added tq/hp.
Pretty sure Dana would take care of you either way.

With less than 400hp/tq a decent 4l60e will work but anything north of that will require the 400 or 80e hands down. I chased the illusive "built" 60e putting 500hp to the tires and destroyed 3 if them before switching to the 80e which is any easy and cost effective swap. DO IT!!!

A 4L80e is just a TH400 with overdrive. I'd rather have overdrive for a daily driver I'm going to put lots of miles on.

Though I suppose gear vendors makes a over drive unit for the Th400 too but it's like $2,600 LOL.

Isnt a built PowerGlide like a 2L5000? Some of those 2spd TH400s with a bazillion clutches hold like 3000hp. I dont know what normaly Glides hold. But they can hold a freakin lot too

I get the TH400 sentiment if it's something non-EFI because you'll spend $$ and effort on wiring and controller for a 4L80E.

When you're already EFI I don't get the resistance to swapping to a way stronger transmission with overdrive. The only real argument I heard so far was local cost for OP. I think I'd rather spend the $ and have something fun to drive instead of making it suck to drive, or having to spend money on highway gears for my diff.. or as you mentioned, the $$$ for a GV unit

The lack of lockup on a TH400 would discourage me more than no OD for a truck with a 3600rpm stall converter that 'sees mostly highway'. Having gone thru my share of built 60's, I cannot recommend that either. Therefor a 4L80E really is the logical choice. If 4wd models are more plentiful in you area at $1K less, get one of those and swap out the output shaft and tail housing.
