4l65e no 3rd and 4th
ok here is the deal i traded some wheels for a 4l65e that had 3rd and 4th out of it. well i had it rebuilt and did the swap myself. well it lasted a whole 3 months. it gave out Christmas eve on the hwy with the cruse set at 70. The rpms started jumping 500rpms then it dropped 4th then jerked well of course there went third.
i pull it and the guy rebuilt it again for free well to day it went out again no 4th and 3rd. i think the same way idk because my wife was driving it. i know its not my foot because my wife has been driving it sense the last rebuild.
so the question is, is it bad transmission, transmission rebuilder, or the tune?
i can either have the same guy rebuild it again for free with me pulling it, or i can spend $900 and have my uncles transmission builder do it with him pulling it and i get a warranty and i know his transmissions are good. im thinking of rebuilding it and trading the truck off for a newer truck. but i can always put a 6.0 with a 4l80e and be done. what do yall think would be the best solution?

is it stock or built? 2wd or 4wd?

Thats the problem when guys touch 4l60's that don't know what they are doing. They try cramming extra clutches in the pack and they never last. I had a problem with a builder once before, didn't matter what he did, tried 3 different transmissions, all trash. He could build the hell out of a th350 or 400 tho. 4speed was a no-no.

Not sure how the build was done but it definitely sounds like something is not right. I would get a pressure gauge on it the next time to make sure that it is working properly. There is more to a quality build with these units than just installing clutches. If hydraulically there is an issue with the trans it is just not going to last. I do many things even in stock builds to make sure they are right. New seals, pistons, clean valve body, tight pressure regulator circuit, good separator plate, new pressure control solenoid and proper clutch clearances are just a few. Its possible that you have an issue with the stator tube or the input shaft floating in the input drum. These are all things that a quality builder looks at. HTH and good luck. Vince
