Sounds like he is just slapping clutches in it and letting it roll... I can tell you from experiencethis is why it's not lasting. Get a differed builder, someone who's schooled on modern transmissions. Several things you need to do to make sure your build lasts as Vince stated. These are things i do myself. It may take him an extra hour to finish the assembly but it won't leave you on the side of the road.

For sale?
I didn't like the vett servo 2nd gear bang shift at half throttle tho. And let me do some thinking
I'll ask my other builder if he does all that. He said he could build one to hold a camed 6.0 so maybe he does.
Thanks. This site is awesome for all the info that comes from it. I wish I knew how to rebuild them my self. If broke it then I couldn't hate on the builder then. How did u learn how to do it?
Thanks for everyones info
Not sure how the build was done but it definitely sounds like something is not right. I would get a pressure gauge on it the next time to make sure that it is working properly. There is more to a quality build with these units than just installing clutches. If hydraulically there is an issue with the trans it is just not going to last. I do many things even in stock builds to make sure they are right. New seals, pistons, clean valve body, tight pressure regulator circuit, good separator plate, new pressure control solenoid and proper clutch clearances are just a few. Its possible that you have an issue with the stator tube or the input shaft floating in the input drum. These are all things that a quality builder looks at. HTH and good luck. Vince

well i made the same guy do it again for free till i figure out if i wanna put a 6.0 with a 4l80 in it. it will at least make it a little while so i can give my grandpas k-5 back. well he said put a new pump, valve body, solenoids, pressure switch drum and clutches almost everything but the case so hopefully this will last till i can make my mind up
tues day night i will begin putting it back in. Ive got it down to pulling it in 1.5hrs not bad sense its 4x4 and i cant pull the y pipe off because its welded up fully.

well i just got home from putting the trans back in and i must say its a whole hella alot better than it was. i can finally hold 1st over 5mph and the tc locks up nicely and doesn't kick out. wish he would have just put all the stuff in it the first time.
but on a bad note i just got laid off today to. so it was a bad day that had a good end.
