Default 4l65e - What shud I expect to spend??

I will be dropping in a 370cu with MP122...looking for 550rwhp, so assuming a stage 5 type build from FLT. Is this a $2500 piece of $5000?

You should probably consider a 4L80e for hp over 500.

Lots of conflicting info on that regard...I'm told the mating isn't as simple as many say, and it costs about 60rwhp as well...Opinions?

A blown 4L65e will cost a bit more

FLT recommends that the 4L80 be used in applications exceeding 500rwhp.

Yep a 4l80e would be the logest lasting, sure a VERY well built 65 could do it, but I bet they would end up costing the same. BTW, the 4l80e isn't that bad. I like mine....

FLT sent me a quote of $3750 for a 4l65 extreme duty with billet shaft...they were one of 2 tranny guys recommending the 65 over the 80! R/

I'm getting an FLT lvl5 with a billet shaft, towing converter and a deep pan too. I do some towing during the summer of a 6000lb 5th wheel and have a turbo'd 5.3L '01 Silverado. I changed my rear differential to a 14bolt full floating one with 4.56gears, and I added an aftermarket cooler on top of the stock tranny cooler. I think I should be covered toughness wise. I have been towing on my bone stock 4L60E with 100,000 miles on it without problem. I just keep the tranny flushed, clean and cool and when towing I keep do easy start and stops, so it just keeps on going. I suspect if a guy is going to put out 500RWHP or 600+ crank power and race around and do 1/4 mile runs, maybe you should consider upgrading to the 4L80E. Without a core to send back though, the cost of the 4L80E and conversion is nearly 5k$.
