The 4L70E is RPO M70. It has many of the same 4L65E parts (5-pinion planets, 7-friction 3/4 clutch, stronger input and stator shafts, etc...) but in addition, it also has a strenthened output shaft and a better reaction internal gear. Some models will also have an Input (Turbine) Speed Sensor.

60/65/70e= the same damn thing with a few upgrades all are a POS for lognevity to behind a high hp app or a vehicle you beat on all the time. 70e is just a little bit more beefed up 65e from what I have been able to find which isnt much. Still uses the same casing as the 60e from the couple of pics that I have seen so there aint much difference likely GM just patched a couple of common problems they had with the 65e.

All righty, here is some stats on the 4l70e trans from GM Powertrain
4l65e=M32
4l70e=M70
max engine torque
4l65e 360 lb/ft
4l70e 400 lb/ft
max gearbox torque
l65e 610
l70e 670
max shift speed 1-2
l65e 6200
l70e 6400
max shift speed 2-3
l65e 6100
l70e 6200
Gear ratios
1st 3.06L1
2nd 1.63:1
3rd 1:1
4th 0.7:1 OD
R 2.29:1
Weight
4l60e 163 lbs
4l65e/4l70e 195 lbs
Powertrain also lists NO WOT upshift into OD from 4th, this must be a PCM variable.
The 4l70e is a slightly beefed 700r4/4l60e/4l65e trans, this isnt the end all to our 1/2 ton truck transmission problems unfortunatley. The 80e/65e trans is still desirable for high hp apps./ in our heavy trucks.

I love it when they give the max shift speed its hilarious. I spun my 65e up to 6900 before and the 80e is rated to shift at like 5300 and well there are alot shifting in the mid 6K range
So there you go thunder basically no difference just a slightly higher tq rating.
