Just so you guys know I added the weights of the 60e/65e/70e and the gear ratios. The 65e/70e is about 30 lbs heavier than the 60e. The 80e/85e is 255lbs so the 65e/70e is only about 60 lbs lighter. Or about a 1/2 a tenth in the 1/4 from weight alone.
Effeciency would be more of a difference, but the gear ratio advantage of the 80e would close that margin some.

I had a 60e that was converted to a 65e with all the goodies and there isnt a difference that I could tell and I think I would be able to tell a 30# diff when picking it up out of the bed of the truck by myself and nearly breaking my back I think 30 more #s would have made it impossible for me to pick it up by myself. Like Gonzo said you may have found it in print but in real life in my experience that isnt so.

I'm making fun of you. I do work on my own sh*t. I've done everything myself that's already done to my truck. Less the tune.
Don't think there is any need to tear apart my engine just yet. Have a warranty and reliability. Can't say the same for everything on your truck.
When the time comes, I'll under the hood and under the truck.
I even set my own alignment. How about you?
I have access to a 4-head digital alignment rack.

I got those stats from GM Powertrain.
We have to remember than in 1887 1/2 GM went to a full bolt on bellhousing that circles the TC 360 degrees, before 1997 1/2 the 4l60e's had that bolt on sheetmetal pan and a 1 pice case (without the bolt on bellhousing)
Maybe the older 4l60e's without the 360 degree bolt on bellhousing were a little lighter due to the case??? MAybe the weight difference is in the case???
My 1997 came withe the early 1 piece case, I am currently using a bolt on bellhousing 60e from a 1999 OBS truck.
