so the PI converter is a name you don't hear as much as circle-d or yank.....why is that. They make a decent converter right? What is their pricing compared to the others? And as far as drive-ability and reliability, how do they match up?

it seems u wont go wrong with either one.. i loved my circle d and yank's both. But if i didnt get my new yank converter for a really good deal, i was going to go ahead and call chris back at circle d.

but with that said i have never had a PI but a friend ordered one and hes had it back to them three times trying to get the stall around 3600. but other than that he loves it.

I've heard that there's been a fairly recent rash of PI's breaking apart at the hub...

I think that was the 60e converters. The hub on the 80 is a little different.

I had a Vigilante and it worked fine, never heard of problems with them!

So are you turbo/blower guys running pretty much stock 4L80Es with a higher stall converter? My 60e crapped itself, and I've got a '95 4L80E in the garage. Bone stock. I also have a 2600 or 2800 stall converter that I got from a buddy. Thinking about going for it before winter. I'm putting down probably 450 rwhp in my 3900 lb truck. Would a stock 80E live for awhile? What would a good stall for that truck be, with a 3.73 gear, and 275/50/15 tires?

The 4L80E is one of things that until you do it and drive it you really don't know how much you are going to enjoy it. I hate how the 4L60E just starts to get the ball rolling and then it shifts. The gear ratios of the 4L80E are much better for all around driving and WOT IMO. I can take 1st to 60 mph and just touch 6000 rpms, 2nd to 90+ and so on. It works well with my cam and I actually get some use out of the gear before it shifts. I do have the stock converter in mine, the one used with the 6.5 diesel which stalls incredibly low and is insanely tight but it still does alright. I can still squeak the tires from a stop which is sufficient for me considering I have a peg leg 10 bolt. Would I ever go back to a 4L60E? Not in this lifetime. My 99 has a 4L60E and a shift kit and even with the transgo shift kit it still is the text book deffinition of a slush box. I HATE how it shifts. Only shift feel complaint on my 80E is 3rd gear. I need to drill seperator plate hole a little bigger but I can't bring myself to go through all that work over drilling a tiny little hole a tiny bit bigger.

when i did the 4l80e and p.i 3600 multi disc on my old lq4 truck i dropped .6 tenths in the 1/8th mile it was explosive get rid of that heavy *** stock converter and you will be amazed. P.i actually makes most of the parts for alot of the companys you listed they are a great company and no questions asked warranty.

Thanks for this info everyone. I am going to swap in an 80e in the future...was going to wait until after the 6 liter was in and running good, but i dont know if the nv3500 will make it much longer, so might end up with a 4.8 4l80e combo for a while

My reason for an 80e in my rcsb i got a better deal on it then a 60e, i am only out 1600 dollars so far and all i need is a converter (unless i just have the stocker rebuilt) and driveshaft and flywheel, and i would rather just build something that is going to last.

Edit: Also its completely rebuilt, hughes internals with koleen steels, hd sprag, transgo shift kit

Dustin
