Default 4L80 gears

Anyone got a 4L80 with the 2.75/1.57 planetary set?

Does this also give a higher 4th gear?

I know this exists, but thought for sure someone would have had an L80 built with this planetary gearset. Maybe it is ultra expensive. ???

I would love to know if it exists, but I doubt it. It know the 80e shares a lot of similar parts with the th400 and they make a 2.75/1.75 gearset for that. Maybe one of those would work. They run about $500 too. I don't know aobut a higher 4th though, if they did, then I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a donut.

Maybe I figured incorrectly that the L80 uses the same compound planetary units and over-running clutches that the TH400 does. The 2.75 gear would be nice.

Back in 1970, that 2.48 gear even seemed a little high in a Stage I 455 slylark with a 3.64 and 26 in tires.

I would not be scared senseless of my L60 if I had never joined this forum.

This 4L80E planet gear has a 2.75 to 1 first gear ratio and a 1.57 to 1 second gear ratio. The stock gear ratio is 2.48 to 1. This planet gear will work on the Quadzilla transmission and on the Bionic 80 transmission when used with a Compushift controller. It will not work with the factory computer.

Hey Grippy. With EFILive you can change the gear ratios in the trans calibration section. I assume you can do the same with HP Tuners. If the ratios were changed in the trans section of the PCM would you be able to use these gears?

I have installed the 2.75:1 first and the 1.57:1 second in my first gen. camaro. If you did one thing internally to an 80e, I would recommend replacing the first and second gear, however I do not know if you can recalibate the PCM for the lower first and second gears. This gear set is for first and second gear only, so third and fourth are same.

One last thing you might want to consider is installing a Transgo shift improver kit (better know as a shift kit, wrong terminology) before you install the tranny
