If this is true this could also add the slow out of the whole issue do to trans gear ratios.

A local 4x4 shop recommends using GM (OEM) Gears as a first choice, Motive second choice, yukon third choice. They only use Richmond gears in Off-Road only applications where you generally won't hear the noise they make.
Yeah, my wife and I bought a 05cc last July and it has 3.23:1's in it and it doesn't have any ***** what so ever!! My Z has 3.73:1's in it and yes there is a huge difference but thats because of the "2" gear ratio "up-sizes" (if you will), so yes you will notice a huge difference. Just going up one gear ratio you probably won't notice that huge of a difference. With you having the 80E, the more for the 456's!!!!LOL!

In terms of drive ratios 4.56 gears will bring the final drive ratio similar to a 4L60 with 3.73. I think that is way too high for every day use but great for the track.

Maybe for the 1st gear final ratio, but the 4l80e has a lower OD gear than the 60e does. You will need a 4.10 gear with the 80e to equal the cruise of 4.56's with a 60e, roughly.

80e 1st 2.48,2nd 1.48 3rd 1:1 OD 0.75
60e 1st 3.06 2nd 1.63 3rd 1:1 OD 0.70

I hate the deep 1st gear of the 60e, when it shifts to 2nd the revs come down to far, aftershift torque recovery sucks.

The first gear drive ratio will be a little closer but still different by 10%. I would like to hear feedback from people who have increased gear ratios on after a 4l80 swap. anyone?

Well I have 4.10 in mine, I thought it had 3.73s until I went to replace them.

Correction, your right - I meant total drive ratio in first gear. The rest are different.

cheers

I run 3.73s with my 4L80E,my truck makes enough torque to absolutely roast the tires.I have run taller gears, but the 3.73s allow me to walk the Tahoe out of the hole with no loss of accelaration.4.56s were impossable to live with,it broke the tires lose with only slight throttle applications and driving in the rain was plain scarey.Plus with the 3.73s highway crusing is much more relaxed not to mention the fuel milage.Go with a 3000rpm stall and leave the 3.73s.

That 402 probably is a big factor! I currently have a converter rated at 2900. Still a little sluggish at the bottom end. The other problem is Im running 285-75-R16 tire that also are quite the PIGs. So Im hoping 4.10s will at least do all right for this setup.
