Hey guys and gals I am doing a 4l80 swap ordered all my parts and the guy at patc said I needed the spacers for the crank shaft and a new flex plate? Thought I only need the spacers or a new flex plate? Can anyone shed some light on me

A crank spacer is required so the flexplate will reach the convertor.
It's like that from the factory on all the 01-09 LS based vehicles using the 4L80E transmission.

In 99-00 they had a special crank but in order to cut cost, they used a standard crank and a spacer to make up the difference so they didn't require a special crankshaft.

You can use a 4l60 flexplate with a 60/80 converter which wont require any spacers

Like he said, some converter builders can build you a converter that will work with your 80e and bolt up to your stock 3 bolt flex plate with no spacer.

my circle D converter bolted up just fine without the spacer, but with the stock 80e converter I needed the spacer to get the converter spacing in spec.
