One factor is environment. The United States sees much higher summer temperatures, and heat weakens transmissions. Also we have long stretches of Interstate highways which give rise to prolonged high speed driving (80+ MPH or 128+ km/hr), also hard on drivetrain parts.

Thirdly US drivers are known to stress vehicles more than other people (except Australians). If you compare a US semi truck to a European semi of the same class, they are worlds apart. The European trucks don't last 3 weeks in the hands of American truckers (don't ask me how I know. I can't tell. ).

So then who in Canada advertises a 4L60E that can stand up to a 1000hp/1000ft-lb launch in a 6000lb truck with some traction.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but personally I don't want any weaknesses anywhere in the driveline that might make me think twice before I nail the throttle. "Is this an okay time and place to break down?" is not a thought I want going through my mind when I need to punch the gas. For those with real power, a 4L80-E delivers the promise of "bulletproof" and is well-worth the extra weight, cost, and penalties in overall gear range and fuel economy to someone who needs a transmission that simply will not break.
