4L80e cant handle turbo?
hello, im new to this forum and it seems where i could get some help in getting started in the right direction with my project. I have a 2000 silverado 2500 light duty and just recently finished my front mount turbo set up and gave it a go. The shifting was firmed up by the computer and shifts fine while not under boost. Today i was rolling ( 45mph) and got on it as a truck tried passing me thinking i would eat it alive but here i barely moved. I originaly thought my tires were spinning from the smell but what are the odds of spinning tire from a 45mph roll?? Which brings me to the conclusion it would be my transmission needing a shift kit?? Im only running 6psi and from reading in the forum it sounds like the 80e's are tough transmissions and could handle that, but im thinking my could use a shift kit seeing as how the truck has 125k on it and i dont think it has ever been rebuilt. What should i do guys? Any help is greatly appriciated. Thanks.

the 4l80e is not invincible, and can and will fail. Especially a 9 year old transmission with more than 100,000 miles on it. There's a theory going around that the 4l80e is hyped up as more stout than it really is because we never hear of many failures because the vast majority of people run 4l60e's. If your transmission was slipping so bad that it was burning, I doubt a shift kit is going to fix that. The good news is you can get a low mile 4l80e junkyard for $600-800 and it should hold up with a shift kit to your setup.

would it be worth while to rebuild my transmission and install a shift kit with the rebuild? also what components will i need to make this transmission handle the turbo? and what exactly does infact come with a shift kit? any websites with shift kits/rebuild kits i will need? and i checked the transmission fluid and smelled it and it did not have the smell that i was smelling when the truck was acting up. wouldnt that strong smell stay in the fluid?
