4l80e conversion
We are ready to install a 4l80 into an 03 Escalade and I need to know if I need a different starter? We are using the 4l65 flex plate from the original 6.0l engine. We have the crank to flex plate spacer and longer bolts. Wouldn't this combination move the flex plate back away from the starter gear?

Stock starter should be fine. The 4L60E flexplate is dished in the middle, the 4L80E one is not, which is why it requires the spacer.
My question is how are you using the 4L60E flexplate with the 4L80E? If you are using the same flexplate you don't need a spacer.

The flex plate is dished in the middle. I was wondering why I needed the spacer. So, the 80 should bolt up the the 6.0 with the original flex plate and bolts? The spacer is only used with an 80 flex plate correct?

I had the BW 4481 but switched to the NVG 149 out of an SSS. I could have used the BW case but the only way was to cut down the output shaft of the trans. Since I just twisted the shaft off of the 4l65 I decided to keep the diameter of the trans output shaft and go with the different case.

Did you get an 80E converter with the 3 bolt 65E pattern?

I've heard that there is less torque steer with them and that they don't throw the power around as quickly as the BW. A bit more like true 4wd. I am hope to pick up the 60 ft. times. Previous was 1.8's. What do you think?

I doubt it, unless you've added more power. Going from a 3.06 1st gear to a 2.48 is kinda the *****.
For comparison's sake...
5.3, Radix, 9 psi, 4L60E = 1.92 60', 13.57 @ 99
6.0, Radix, 9 psi, 4L80E = 2.05 60', 13.66 @ 104
Those were my best times with my two old setups.
