Default 4l80e Dipstick Tube

I'm a little hung up on my 4l80e swap with one of the silliest things...the dipstick tube. I got the tube in place and went to bolt it down only to realize that there is no threaded hole on the back of the block for the tube to bolt to. It would be the bell housing hole that's the second from the top on the passenger side. I checked a spare lq4 engine that I have and it isn't threaded either. I've searched around online haven't been able to find the answer. Do I have the wrong tube for a different application? Or is it not supposed to be bolted down(doubtful)? Thanks in advance!

You probally have the wrong tube. It bolt's to the back of a bell housing mounting stud.

It's a special bolt with a stud on the back of it. The bolt holds the bell housing in and the smaller stud is where the tube mounts.

Thanks... Looks like I must have the wrong tube them. Mine wants to mount between the corner and top stud which has no threads. So it should mount the same way a 4l60 tube mounts? It was the tube that came with the trans so I didn't know if it was the right one. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a tube for an older sbc.... They bolted to the upper right bellhousing bolt if memory serves does your bellhousing have the hole in the top center of the bellhousing???

Yes it does.... And there is a stud going through there with a vent line attached to it.

That hole is blank because the cylinder wall is too close to allow for a bolt hole to be put there without weakening the cylinder wall, at least as i understand it

That makes perfect sense. I must have one for an older sbc.
