Just talked to Chuck @ FLT (who was NOT my original builder) and he thinks its the intermediate sprag as well. I may be ordering an FLT level 5 4L80E today. I need to see what the warranty status is through my original builder. There goes my tax refund, and then some

I think it was just upgraded clutches, but I'm not 100% sure. It was supposed to be good to 900rwhp or so.

2 years and about 38,000 miles on it. Only 1000 of those were hobbit foot miles though.

I couldn't blow it up on 15 psi with the old kit, and I broke it on 8psi with the new one

Well I just talked to my original builder....he said he'd tear down my tranny and rebuild it for $400 plus the cost of parts. He's going to soften the 1-2 shift also. With a replacement sprag costing less than $100 I'd only be out about $600 including shipping. As much as I'd like to give FLT my business, I really can't afford the extra $2800 right now. Looks like I'll be pulling the trans this weekend and shipping it off.

I guess on hard 1-2 shifts the intermediate sprag has a tendency to "roll over"...not sure what that means. Anyway, I guess there's a heavy duty sprag available but it costs something like $650

$600 is not too bad. The sprag clutch has a bunch of elliptical rollers that engage in one direction and freewheel in the other. Sounds like yours gripped so hard that it flopped over center.
