The install cost me $2900.00. The shop did not have any significant problems. They had never done the conversion before, so I kind of walked them through it. The cross member had to me modified by the trans shop. I would get all the parts for the conversion if you plan on having a shop do the work.

I cant answer the question about the converter because I have never installed one o either of the 2 trans.

Glad to hear everything has gone well with the swap, but the above statement is how myths are started. It's not necessarily sucking up power, you're are dealing with way different ratios (2.48 vs. 3.06). So yeah, it's not gonna take off as quick.

BTW, did you go with the stock 2.48 first or an optional 2.75?

I don't think that 2.78 is ready for the LS1 4l80e just yet. I'll have check with Chuck at FLT, I know the last time I checked he said it was being worked on.

1st gear does not help, but the 80e does soak up about 3-5% more power. The gears are much larger and heavier. Just like heavier wheels it takes more power to turn them.

But the shift recovery is SOOOOO much better with the 80e that it has been said makes up for it. I will have one soon in my truck if at all possible Im going to try and put the truck on the dyno before the swap to see how much we truely lose by going to an 80e at the wheels. I would bet my truck its no more than 15-20hp.

I feel the same way bro. My trucks feels much more sluggish at low speeds and taking off but once cruising or on the freeway its great.

I went with a 10.5" converter and I'm not sure of the stall anymore since it was made for N/A but at the HP levels I'm at now. There is no way in hell I can hammer it from a dead stop though. LOL
