I'll say it again. I'm itching to do a transmission rebuild. I think an 80e is in my future. My hats off to you guys doing your own re-builds.

I like saving money but for me its all about the pride in knowing "I" did it.

Thanks, though I've kind of cheated, I've rebuilt other trans and final drive assys. that’s the fun thing about transmissions, they all work a little different.. Same basic ideas, but different ways to apply and release planet groups, makes it challenging

That has a lot to do with it too, I would rather rebuild my own and KNOW what is in it, than pay for something and have no clue...
On top of that it is much much easier to trouble shoot if you know the in's and out's. And it is one of the last things on my truck that wasn't mine own work..

I plan on doing an in-depth write-up of the rebuild.

It would be greatly appreciated. Would be a very useful addition along with the transfer case sticky.

Default update, finally

Well, I i finally got my work bench rebuild. I did a complete overhaul on her....
I went from this,

to this...

Anyway. I got quite a bit done.
here are some more pics

Here you can see the different seals for the center section. The solid piece are the later style. though my trans was built with the split style sealing rings. I like the solids myself...

Installation tool

all the old disks and plates looked great!!!

this kent moore compressor makes life a bit easier. Mac tools sells it for about 100 bucks...

a few notches,,, I'm not sure what the trans guys would think, but I cleaned them up the same way I did my old CR250 cltuch basket...aka basterd file..

more to come, all I got left is the valve body, and pump. o and to finish the engine.....
