Default 4L80E not working

I have a 1993 Chevy 2500 with a 6.5 turbo diesel that kicks out of overdrive ! I have to stop and shut off the truck and then restart it to go back into overdrive! code says that there is too much slip from the imput to output sensors. This trans has just been rebuilt. it also has a very hard first to second shift! any ideas?

There are 2 speed sensors on the trans...and you can plug them in wrong. Try switching the two speed sensor plugs. Later

Throttle position sensor? I have heard that these go bad on diesels and cause the trans to act funny.

OHM the speed sensors and see if they are the same. The hard shift is probably the computer putting the trans to a high line pressure setting because it is seeing a problem. I do have new speed sensors if you need them.

I have a friend who rebuilds trannys and he ran into a problem a while back. One of his customers supplied a kit for him to use on a rebuild and the filter they included with the kit was crap. My buddy built the tranny, installed it and drove it. Worked fine for about 200 miles till flimsy filter sucked closed and caused the trans to slip (E40D/6.9 diesel). Trans came out again, checked, reinstalled, pan dropped 2X before he figured out it was a bad filter. It's something easy to check anyway.

I read a bulletin today about a fuel pressure sensor on the injector pump causing wierd 4th gear and lock up problems. Maybe something to think about as well. Vince
