4L80e to NVG-149
#12
Damn...There goes my build..im a retard. ive been gathering pats for the 4l80 swap and was excited to find out that i could keep awd. picked up a 4l80 for 200 bucks with 30,000 miles from local pnp. Can anyone confirm that my 06 yukon denali xl has a borg warner? How can i tell?

ok so apparently, someone said they got a borg warner to work with 4l80 and this is how./....
"changed front driveshaft and had to lock the front diff in then unplug the actuator and unplug all the tccm stuff and pull fuses. Energized the front diff actuator then unplugged and unhooked everything 4wd including the tccm in the dash"
anyone know of this?
My apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread

I suggest starting your own thread with 80e and Borg Warner in the title, this will help you get answers and also answer the question for other members instead of it being barried in another thread. It's a good topic to work out.

I'd hate to muck things up more but the only awd tcase that MIGHT work with a 4L80 (without replacing an input shaft or coupler) is the BW4485. It is a 32 in/out single speed awd tcase. MAYBE it would fit to the 4L80E. I think it came in GMT900 so it would normally be mated to the 6L80E but the bolt circle on the back of the tranny might be different.

The issue with the 4485 is that it is completely open and needs the active braking system to control and maintain traction.
I accidentally bought one before the 149 when I did my AWD swap.
The 149, as long as you can get the correct input, is a drop in and is totally mechanical and fairly self contained.
I looked into locking my front as mentioned but, again I was out to simplify things, so I swapped in n Silvy SS front. It has no electronics at all. the axles are single piece with no disconnects.
