Did the shifts get super hard after swapping the converter?
A stock converter is going to move a lot more torque at low engine RPM than a converter with a 3800 RPM stall speed does. If the shifts were calibrated to be quickler for the higher stall speed converter with tuning and/or valve body modifications it's going to need to be re-calibrated and smoothed out to avoid shock-loading the hard parts on upshifts. Shock-loading is what usually kills sprags and roller clutches.
