Default 4L80E Question...

2 questions:
1) how much would it be to rebuild one? (missing reverse?)
2) would a 4L80E out of like a 95 or 98 just bolt up in my 00 with an 01 6.0?

I think that cheap compared to Finish Line or PerformaBuilt transmissions, but always you get what you pay for. You can try $500 dollar rebuild on Craig list or you can rebuild kit on e-bay and then have someone install it for you.

The 91-96 will work as long as you have the mounting bosses for the nutral safety switch. Also you wont beable to use all the bellhousing bolts. No biggy imo, btw mine is a 96...

97-06 have a tapered pan and stronger internals and there is a rebuild kit complete on ebay with alto clutches and blue steels complete for $159.

Definately avoid 91-93 models entirely - they have a 292.5Hz. Pressure Control Solenoid and 91-92 units have the wrong connector. (1994 and up models have a 614Hz. Solenoid compatible with the PCM.)
1994-1996 cases have the old style linkage, adapting the newer neutral safety switch and linkage will require improvisation. These cases also have the cooler lines in the front, 1997 and up have the return line in the back.
1997-1999 cases do not have the top bolt hole.
1999 and up have 10% larger sun gears and wider manual second band.
2001 and up have a better overrun roller clutch in the overdrive, rollers won't skew.

i got a complete 4L80e out of a wrecked 04 HD with 25K on it for $1000. with a mild 6.0 should not need much besides a shift kit...red eagle of course.

i ended up sending all my internals out for cryo, then put in a CPT shift kit and its holding just fine with over 650ftlbs

yes it was, very good, thanks James B.

well it looks like the one I found is out of a 2k C-3500 behind a 5.7. Took it out with about 75k on the clock, worked just fine, truck was wrecked (front end damage) guy said he had it checked out and its "spotless" inside? said it works and all, converted with it, he wants $450.
I think Ill be taking it off his hands in a couple weeks
