i paid $850 for my 4wd one. it was out of a 03 2500 with 32K on it.

1994-1996 cases have the old style linkage, adapting the newer neutral safety switch and linkage will require improvisation. These cases also have the cooler lines in the front, 1997 and up have the return line in the back.
1997-1999 cases do not have the top bolt hole.
1999 and up have 10% larger sun gears and wider manual second band.
2001 and up have a better overrun roller clutch in the overdrive, rollers won't skew.
I know you know this JamesB, but others may not.....

The larger gears in the reaction carrier of the 99 and up can be retrofitted to the earlier cases, as well as the overrun sprag in the 01 and up transsmissions and the second band.
