I believe they went to the clip in style without the long end on it in 01 when they went to the new body style.

Those two I posted pic's of are both from my 98 (front and rear). They were both 'clip in' style until I silver soldered the dash fittings to them so I could use pushlok hydraulic fittings on them.

Yes - 1997 and higher 4L80-Es have the fluid return in the back straight into the center support.

My problem is I bought a 4l80e from some one and doesnt remember what yr it came from and it came with some npt brass fittings. It didnt even come with the clip style fittings. The guy said it was from an 01 van or 03 he doesnt remember. I was asking cus I dont wanna install the tranny the way it is and then have problems.

THere should be a tag on the side with the date on it. Yellow and silver tag.
It'll say the julien date...but the last 2 numbers are the year...from memory.
