4L80E question..

Default 4L80E question.. 03' 4BTA Cummins Tahoe

Hey guys...

I just picked up a 4l80e from a 97' k3500... Its going behind a 4bt cummins in my 03' tahoe.

Anyways... gave $350 for the trans and transfercase.. guy said it had around 100k on the clock and drove fine...

Fluid was a little dirty but not burnt... the filter was aftermarket so it had been serviced... and there was very little material in the pan... everything looked great.

When I wiped the magnet in the pan off... I found a little sliver of metal... looks like a piece of a small snap ring... it was thin and flat... 1/16" (probably smaller)or so wide... maybe a 1/4" long.. rounded like the ear of a small snap ring.

So.. 4l80e gurus... where could this have come from? I was planning on just running the trans as is but I dont want to cause damage... will most likely go through it now.. but wanted an idea of where the piece could have come from.

It has been a fun project... it runs and drives now but has eaten two stock 4L60Es in the last few thousand miles... number 2 is on its way out (I had the trannies so it wasnt a cost thing... but I'm tired of the truck being unreliable)

Here are a couple pics of the truck... its not finished... still have a lot of detail stuff to get finished... but want to get the major stuff out of the way first.

Got tired of averaging 11mpg... With a junk trans... I've managed to average mid teens... once the 80e done and in... I should be able to get it into the high teens/low 20s pretty easily. A smaller compound turbo setup is also in the works... (hx30/hx35 or 40).. basically will make for instant boost of idle and 35-40ish psi up top with the 35... more so with the 40.

Anyways... if anyone can help... please do.
