Talking 4l80e questions...

I recently purchased a gen III 5.3 to put into my truck and im looking to push 550 or more i know what i need for the engine but have no clue when it comes to transmissions im set on a 4l80e but i was wondering if there are any reputable sites i can purchase performance 4l80e or should i get one from a junkyard and take to a local performance shop? i have $3000 to spend on the transmission.

If you know that you can get a core cheap and have a place build it and be under that $3,000, that's not a bad choice.

A brand new rebuilt unit from GM is $2,365. You could do that along with a nice torque converter and be doing really good too.

A stock 4L80e would do 500-600hp no problem.

I may consider buying a rebuilt thru GM what all would i need exactly? the 5.3 originally had a 4l60e attached to it. Is there a thread discussing this?

The jist is that you need the transmissions, get the cooler lines to work, torque converter, flex plate or get a 4L60e bolt pattern 4L80e torque converter.

The transmission cross member needs to be modded or you can buy a swap cross member. New driveshaft is needed as well to handle that power.

And tuning to make it all work. I'm sure there are swap threads floating around here somewhere.
