Quick overview of my Truck:
1988 GMC Sierra Reg Cab
6.0 lq4
4l80e
3000-3600 stall thereabouts eventually
Future Turbo Build... 76mm 8-12 #'s
Isky Tripple 12 cam
ARP Head Studs
ARP Connecting rod bolts
Comp 7.4 Hardened PR
Patriot Dual Valve Springs
Dual Roller Timing Chain
LS9 Head Gaskets
3.43 gears
HP potential 500-600 hp skies the limit lol
Street warrior... maybe a pass or 2 a year at the track.
So with the turbo setup in mind I need to be pushed in the right direction as far as the trans, and what I need to purchase to get my project running... Sure there are a lot trans kits out there, but unfortunately tranny's aren't my specialty so its all jibberish. Will a stock 4l80e last behind something pushing 500hp or thereabouts or should I invest now in a few things that will make it bullet-proof? If I am going the bullet proof route then what kit or better yet what parts can I purchase that will take me there? I have searched, but most searches lead me to guys in my opinion looking for a monster trans re-build. Thanks for any input the tranny is my next step towards completion!

Your def on the right track, I was in your shoes a yr ago and found the general consensus was the 80 in stock trim with a trans-go shift kit and tru-cool 40k cooler would hold just fine with 500hp, thats what i did and so far so good, i hav'nt put any boost thru it yet but i'm really glad i went this route right away and didnt go thru a couple 60's first, like so many before me. Find yourself a good working 80 preferably 2000 and up, shift kit it and let er' rip...with your plans you will break a 60, you'll spend a couple thousand rebuilding and upgrading parts and then you may or may not break that but if you break the 80 and spend a couple thousand on a rebuild you'll be good for a long long time

Thanks LSF! Yes I decided very early on to go that extra step and get a 4l80e... a no brainer over the 4l60e. I ordered the Transgo-HD2 and will find a good tranny cooler I am sure I will be needing it as well, a little extra insurance goes a long way. Is there anything else I might should do since its out of the truck maybe for a little extra benefit... where are the real failures for these transmissions with turbo?
