let me first start by admitting, I'm well versed in the 60/65/70E trans... but this is my first real dealings with an 80E
I've got the earlier style 4L80E with no 12 o'clock bolt hole and bolt on yoke... I got it cheap but bought it as-is, I'd like to go through it before I put it behind a fresh forged motor/turbo. I've already got the Transgo kit for it and have the means to go through it myself.
What all parts are you guys putting in these things. clutches/steels? seal kits? trying to keep a realitevly tight budget without cutting corners... I've still got one of those gold plated 4L80E converters to buy

I know the top bolt hole, cooler fittings, and bolt on yoke are some of the major differences.. but I've honestly yet to hear someone explain whats so much "better" about the later 80's. I'm sure improvements were made, but what? all I've heard around is there are internal differences that make them "better" but nobody's said exactly what.... I'm all ears

I know TCI doesnt make the best converters around, but this kit seems to be pretty complete, minus the hard parts.
