4L80E Stall
Hey guys,
The time has come for me to make this Pro-Charger really come to life. Now, I don't know a lot about stalls...but I am wondering if spending $950 on a stall for a 4L80 is really worth it. Is there any real advantage of buying say a Yank 2800 stall or sending my stock convertor off to a reputable shop to be re-stalled? I am sure there are big differences (I belive the Yank is smaller diameter - less resciprocating weight), but I am just wondering peoples thoughts on this. I just haven't found any 4l80 convertors closer to my price range.
Thanks!

i have had both, a stock type re-stalled and a fuddle 9.5", both near the same stall.
i will say the smaller diameter is a big difference. your stock stall shuold be around 11", although i am speaking of mine from a 65e... my stock stall weighed 55ish lbs, whereas the new one is roughly 32 lbs.
the tires hate the smaller verter, spins VERY easy under light throttle, 1st gear is almost useless for racing on the street.
i think a 2800 would be a great choice being that your boosted, probably will brake stall to 3000+. yank, vig, fuddle... they are all good converters. many will say you need a triple disk converter with the power you are making, and it doesnt hurt.. but i have had 0 problems with a single disk so far.. i think this fuddle may have 2 disks, not sure?
either way, that will be the biggest difference you can do for a 60' time at the track...
just stick to the big 3 there in the converters and you will be fine. they are all great converters.. most of them can be had for `$600 ish , unless you go top of the line triple disk...
nice truck, BTW. looks like mine

i am in the same ball park as you i am going pick up my trans in a few.4l80 but i will be going with a 3600 to 4000 stall.i will say the smaller the stall size the faster you will go but just rember you have to be able to launch it after all the work, just depends on how much boost you will have off the line.

I love my 3000 stall 10" converter in the new 80. I had a 9.5" 3300 in the 60 and it was loose driving around town but launched to the point where you absolutly needed slicks. I think the smaller it is the "looser " it is. My current combo is great ,wish I had done it sooner. Yes most def go with extra or thicker clutches in the lock up otherwise you will burn them up. I had my tuner do the tow/haul switch also.
