Since the OP and I are looking for something 3k and less what is a good reasonably priced TC to go with? I don't want to affect my towing and don't want a TC that is so loose that driving it on the street in my truck is a chore, and I don't want it to affect towing at all. The OP wants a 2800 and I want a 2200-2500. Is a TCI an option? I ask because a friend is a dealer and I can get them at cost, but I have cheaped out on a TC before and it was aweful.

Hey guys,
The time has come for me to make this Pro-Charger really come to life. Now, I don't know a lot about stalls...but I am wondering if spending $950 on a stall for a 4L80 is really worth it. Is there any real advantage of buying say a Yank 2800 stall or sending my stock convertor off to a reputable shop to be re-stalled? I am sure there are big differences (I belive the Yank is smaller diameter - less resciprocating weight), but I am just wondering peoples thoughts on this. I just haven't found any 4l80 convertors closer to my price range.

Payed like 930 for my PI 3000 vig, I was talked into the restall first time and disaster it came back really loose and lock up clutch was garbage it ended up falling apart and took the transmission pump out with it. Good luck, by the way how does your truck feel with the 4l80e conversion?
phasemaster--Well, I expected that blowing the tires off almost instantly would be somewhat solved by the 4l80e, but that is not completely true. With the stock stall, it is somewhat slower to get into boost. You can tell it is a heavier tranny and convertor. Once it gets to about 3800 or so it is a beast again. With the longer first gear, the wheel speed is outrageous once it starts spinning and will just keep them lit. It did that with the 60, but it would spin A LOT but not with boiling smoke. Now it just boils smoke off the tires. If that makes sense...
I still have all of the torque management left on (scared as the 4l60 lasted two weeks with it turned off.), so that makes a big difference.
So, long story short...it may feel a TAD more sluggish but I think a convertor would make it the perfect combo.

I bought the yank sc3000 and it is worth every penny. It is tight enough you don't notice it when driving normal and still flashes to 2800-3000 under power. The increased stall ratio makes the higher first gear much less noticeable.

I've read anywhere from 1800-2200 in gas mostly stock or with bolt on 6 liter applications. I've heard as high as 3000 with a blown 408 stroker sitting ahead of it. Other then its size I don't think the stock converter for the gas engines is really all that bad. Right now behind my 350 mine has a 4L80E from a 6.5 liter diesel and I am using the diesel converter which stalls at 1500. Really its not bad, with the tighter gear ratios its deffinitely livable when a PI costs upwards of a grand and I've got more then enough lowend torque to run around town below 1500 rpms.

Im extremely satisfied with my PI Vig 9.5". They also have awesome customer service. If you can find it, I had a thread a while back about switching from a 10.5" PI to a 9.5" PI and gained almost 1.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile. That was the only change I made. Prochargers love stall, the more the better.
