Default 4l80e swap in ecsb

i am starting the 4l80e swap as my 60 died. (mine is a 2003 with a swapped 6.0) today i got a 2005 4l80e with 30k miles for 900.00 with converter. very clean unit... i also got the drive shaft with it for 10 bucks and it has the yoke with it. so my plan is that that yoke off the 2500 drive shaft and place it on mine. i have read that should work???
i also got the 6.0 fly wheel ..i have a 6.0 now with a 60e so i got the fly wheel just in case. they only charged me 10$
so i now have *trans*converter
*dipstick
*fly wheel
*yoke
i looked at the stock 2500hd cross member but i dont think it will work.
so i will cut and weld the stock one.

i am just fixing to order the transgo 4L80E-HD2

is it better to install shift kit while it is out of truck? how hard is it to install?

also working on segment swap now with hp tuners.
do i need to buy the wiring harness for conversion? looks like the information on the sticky will save me that money
should be fun...

It sounds like you got a very good grasp on everything involved...I'm assuming your 2wd....seems to be a pretty easy swap huh?

Regarding the driveshaft, I do not believe the 2500HD shaft is a direct drop in. It will need to be shortened. Otherwise, if you have the 2 piece steel driveshaft you can order a Neapco yoke and precision U joint and it will all bolt in to the 80 and your stock driveshaft.

The crossmember supposedly moves back 6.25". I have measured the distance from the front of the 80e to the bolt stud that mounts to the crossmember as 30 5/8". All I need to do now is get under the truck and measure that same distance on the 60e and the difference will be the length the crossmember needs to move back.

You can use the 2500HD yoke. The thing is though, the 2500 uses a 1350 joint whereas the 1500 is a 3r so you would end up with a bastard u joint that supposedly is weak.

Here is the part #'s you need to retain your stock driveshaft and bolt to the 80e (courtesy of superado):

Neapco N3R-3-9161X
Precision Premium #534G

Both of those should run you about $85. Not bad at all considering Speed Eng wants $160 for a custom yoke.

I found the Neapco Yoke on ebay for about $70 and you should be able to find the u joint pretty much anywhere

actually for future reference not all of the 2500's use a 1350 yoke.. mine didn't and ended up having to use my spare th400 yoke to get by. There was no 331/534G conversion joint on the market that I could find.

well at the wreaking yard there were 2 2500hd's right side by side. one was crew cab the other just extended cab. the crew cab, had a single one piece drive shaft. with a huge yoke on it. the 2500 extended cab had a two piece had a smaller yoke on it and it fit the tranny. the transmission the truck came from had the smaller yoke two piece drive shaft. so that is why i was thinking it would work. but looks like i still have to order the yoke tomorrow.
