4L80E too much transmission?

4L80E too much transmission?
I keep bringing up to a friend about doing an 80e swap in my 07 Tahoe.
Every time he says "its too much transmission for your truck". He never really elaborates or explains his meaning but always says the same thing.
Why would it be too much transmission?
Thanks

I prefer the 4L80E to most GM transmissions, except maybe a TH400 with a GearVendors on the back of it. The only thing I need to change with my 4L80E swap setup is to put a lower rear-end gear in it. Need to drop it to a 4.10 to run with my 29" tall tire setup. I just bought a 2,600 rpm stall 10.5" converter for the 80E too. Between the two changes it should really eliminate any performance loss from the 4L80E.

I'm trying to finish my 4l80e swap. I did it because I never want to worry about my trans again when I throw a turbo on. That and its a fun hobby to put one in for me (so far).
There are downsides.
- $$, gotta collect a number of parts. Driveshafts, converter, cross member....
- Time, there are a few supporting mods.
- Gotta get a tune if you want to avoid the relay setup, which I hear isn't always perfect.
- If you worry about weight, it weighs more.
- 1st gear is tall.
If you're not making crazy power and drive like a sane person, a 4l60e can be just awesome.

Maybe he's talking about the whole first gear thing. I don't know.
I figured I could get a stall, something like a 3400 and it should be good.
Thoughts/ opinions?
That's my point. I don't want to worry about my trans again.
My future plans are a 6.2.
I do drive a little more spirited in the AM and more like a sane person on the way home. But, I do like to get on it and don't want to have to worry about it.
Not worried about weight
As long as I can find the right dimensions for the driveshaft, I'll cut it down.
Cross member, I'll do that to.
Money, its coming in, slowly, haha.

GM should've put 4l80e trannys in every v8 engine combo for a truck, yeah the first gear is longer but the peace of mind is way better than a 3.06 first gear. Some guys have actually gone faster with an 80 swap cause the 1-2 shift keeps the rpm's higher than the 60e.

GM put the 4L80E behind some 4.3s.

a friend of mine who ownes a yunkyard said i was crazy when i told him i was swaping to a 80e, he said its big heavy and slows down your truck, reason he said it was all the 6.0/4l80e stock trucks he drove where slow, he claimed it was a towing transmission
He saw he was wrong once everything was back together and tuned

Where can I find or what should I type in to find the different ratios for each trans?
I was thinking something like 3200. I had one in my previous Tahoe, that and the built trans was awesome. Drove like a champ.

I'm hoping for the same drivetrain in my 07 Tahoe, that should be fun.
So, what do you guys suggest I do?
Stall? If so what should I go with? 3400 sound good?
Is it still going to be street-able, it is my daily.

The Phoenix converter was built to be a tight 2,600 behind a mildly cammed 6.0L with the intention to spray and be around 3,400 rpm on spray. Behind my small cammed 5.7 Vortec it stalls more like 2,800-3,000 rpm. Its pretty loose in my setup. At idle of 750 rpm it does not even creep forward in gear. To get my 6,200 lbs rolling, you have to open the throttle 10-15% compared to the stock converters 2-5%. When I get a little aggressive on it I keep finding myself laying lots of rubber down and a cloud of tire smoke behind me.
