I am doing my 80E for the same reason. I have BROKEN the 700r4 and want computer shifting. Weak old 700r4 (4L60E for all practical purposes) has been giving me problems behind this engine and I want the stronger option.

It was slipping on upshifts, so I put in a really hot cranked up shift kit, which fixed the slipping, but ended up breaking the over-running sprag.

With the 700r4 it blazed too quickly through first gear to take advantage of the TPIs killer mid-range torque, slipped on the 1-2 upshift (cut-loose shift) enough to bounce off the rev-limiter, and shifted too quickly into 3rd due to the governor calibration. The 80E will improve this SO much!

What cab style is your truck?

I love the 80e, wouldn't go back to the 60e. I installed the 80e rebuilt w/HD2 shift kit, and an Edge 3700 verter. Yes the Transmission takes more power to spin. You will love the launches! A lil easier to control vs the 60e. The Combination of 80e,HD2,stall, & 4.11 gears allows me to make passes on the road at quarter throttle instead of having to punch it to make that damn 60e down shift to power band. If you are serious about racing and making more power later on(it'll happen) go 4l80e and don't look back!!!

I know I am going 4L80E and anyone serious with power in a truck/suv should too. Considering its a Fullsize G20 Van that is getting twin turbos on its Vortec head L98 TPI engine, I will be going 4L80E its a given. I actually plan to leave the stock converter in the 80E even. No sense in going bigger since the engine I have makes around 450 ft/lbs of torque @ 3,000 rpm the way it sits and will make even more with the twins.

With my setup, I perfer the gear ratios in the 80 over the 60. First gear is somewhat usable now.
