But it only makes noise in 1st, wouldn't the pump make noise in all gears?

Not necessarily...the pressures vary by gear.

How does it sound in reverse?

sorry to hijack thread, but Atomic, mine whines 1st and 2nd and also in reverse. Could it be a bad pump? Doesn't whine like the video the OP posted but it does whine.

No noise in reverse, 2nd whines but not near as loud as first.

I know A lot of people think Ace (Gilbert) builds bad *** transmissions but I've had nothing but a pile of **** with this one. Converter locking up in first, pulled and sent back, then overheating sent whole truck to him. He charges me another 700 for a "rebuild" + 200 to pull it and reinstall it, reinstalled and it still does the same ****. So now I have a "credit" for a refresh... So 2 months and 2-3 times saying it was done and I'd pick it up to just make it 20 miles down the road and overheat now but the converter was acting right now.l

Get it back and now have about 5-6K on it and this whining is getting worse

my 99' 4l80e i put in my 454ss truck had right over 200k miles on it when i installed it....my truck makes over 400 at the tire and over 500tq at the tire and it lasted all of 2 months until the whining started......it progressed to the point of thinking how in the hell is it still running!! pulled it out and had my trans guy to tear it apart and surprisingly everything was in very nice condition but the PUMP!! had major wear marks on it where sum sort of bushing rides and was scarred very bad at the o-rings....bought a new pump and have been running the hell out of it for 3 months now and its quiet as a mouse! hope your problem will be as simple as a fix also....
