4th Gear TC or TC control problem
Guys,
A few weeks back I posted up about a tranny slip I was having. After some logging its not the actual tranny slipping it is the TC.
Symptoms:
Highway speeds 55ish to whatever. 4th gear with TCC locked no issue. Once TCC unlocks. Mode 3 commanded per HPT. The TC slips badly. Not always, seems to be more prevalent at higher tranny temps. Above 150 degrees. Its like I have a loose 5000 rpm stalled converter.
Don't think its tune related. I had done no tranny tuning and had been fine for a year.
I've bought a manual on the 4l60E. It is either in the TC... which I doubt as it only does this in 4th gear. Truck pulls fine everywhere else. Normal TC slip. Heck I just ran my best 1/4 et last night at the track. This leads me to believe its in fluid flow/control in 4th gear.
Thoughts so far.
The o-ring on the tranny input shaft. What would happen if this were failing?
The TCC solenoid? I am assuming this just moves fluid to the Clutch and doesn't affect anything else. Dunno.
Looking for any idea on what to try here at the house for a fix. I don't want to pull the tranny and TC and ship them out.

From what i understand a ballooned torque converter happens when excessive pressure is allowed to build up and it literally expands the TC. This can cause the TC To feel looser since the tolerances inside have greatly increased and fluid is flowing more freely. this can also mess up the engines thrust bearing and transmission pump if not fixed quickly.
I may be talking out my *** here so someone correct me if i am wrong.
