If you've ever ridden a 4 wheeler on hard pack, then sand, you'll notice alot more drag when running in sand. It's alot harder on drivetrain parts than you think. Especially with the sand drag tires they are using.
And Jarret is putting down well over 1000rwhp through four mt et streets to run the trap speed he is so its fairly mute, thats a hell of a lot more stress than a little cammed 5.3 puts out no matter the terrain. Plenty of people running the autotrac in the sand. All the guys up in michigan are running them. Simple man lance was running one in his ecsb radix charged lq4 and that other guy with an ecsb turbo 5.3 making over 700rwhp used one. As I said Ive been offroad pulling a trailer through the mud making a lot more power than he is and didnt blow mine not to mention my tcase has almost 200K on it.

Little cammed 5.3 running 5.27sec in 1/8th of a mile IN THE SAND with a "little" 200-250 shot of NOS.. A bit of stress thru the t-case bud.. Or at least it feels like.. But yeah, it feels like a whole different game to be racing in the sand.. That's why I'm looking for a stronger t-case setup..

If you're not blowing up well built 60e's left and right you're not making enough power to hurt the tcase.

I've had a couple vato traks appart and it appears to me the clutchs are only used in auto. When you put it in 4 lo or HI it locks. I used to sand drag a 73 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 and ran a TH350/NP205 with the 1.96 reduction, 3.73 gears. We raced 100 yds, and that combo worked perfect. I had a NA 406 dart Iron eagle heads, small roller, full bodied street truck went 5.01@67mph.

Kinda miss it

That's a GREAT looking truck buddy, there are lots of those trucks here in town running carb'ed 6.0's.. Some of them running stroked 408's.. I think they have a Vic Jr intake with a 950cfm Demon carburetor and most of them run with a 150-200hp shot of nos on VP race gas.. My truck has not give me any trouble with my autotrac t-case but I tought that with the manual t-case it would help some because of what everyone is saying about the power reduction with the 4wd..
Some people do a 5.3 or 6.0 -350 tranny and they say they are loving it! I just don't feel confident putting a 350 on a 2006 truck.. It just doesn't sounds right to me..
There is a guy with a 5.3L truck with nothing but the 350 tranny, tune, K&N air filter and 200hp of nos! Incredible but true! I mean no timing modified and he says he has run 300hp thru it with no issues!

Believe nothing you hear and half of what you read. No way he is spraying a 300 shot on a stock bottom end with no tuning. I havent seen anything in the tune that reduces power in 4lo. Of course my PCM is an 01 not an 06. No reason to go to a 350, if you decide to swap go to a 4l80e. There is nothing worng with the autotrac as long as you run it in 4lo or 4hi, the auto function causes problems. I only run it in that mode when its raining outside, never offroad or any other time.
