4wd front end straps
I bought my clevis bolts and original (too short) straps here, AC510050-USA - Dune Buggy Parts, Sandrail Parts, VW Parts - MooreParts.com
I ended up buying new straps from doghouserepair since they were the cheapest place I could find. They arent as high of quality as the one on mooreparts, but they should work fine for front end straps. My front is stock height, but if you are lowered any 10" would probably be perfect.
I used chase's write up as a guide and the whole thing took 1-2 hours if I had the right length straps. The rear shock bolts are longer than the front, so I ended up using those instead of buying new bolts...might be a cheap way out but it works fine.

i never thought my endeavor would help so many , thanks .
also one thing i found that helped was an angled washer to help that angle on the top of the shock mount .

you can make one by cutting some tube at an angle.

Thats a good idea. I remember you saying you used a large, thick washer plate to put some meat in between the nuts and frame, but I couldnt find something similiar short of just drilling a piece of steel.
Do you remember what the angle was of the washers you got was?
When you tighten the straps, do you continue tightening after the slack is taken up to add some preload or do you just take up the slack?

So how long are the straps you have on it now that work? I am trying to decide if I need 10" or 11" From the measurements I took I think 10" will work but it may be close, I want to be able to back them off some for normal driving so I may need 11"
Any chance you could get a measurement of the clevis threads? I believe most clevis's are 5.5" from bolt hole to thread start. What I am trying to find out is the lengh of the actual threads. How much do I have to work with?
