This might sound dumb, but has anyone done that? Ive been thinking about it because i need a new tranny and my tahoe never sees mud or snow. Would there be anything special you would have to do besides driveshaft? The main reason im asking is because i wanna do gears but dont have the money for front gears.

you would have to change the output shaft in the transmission and get a regular tailshaft housing the 4x4 tranny has a shorter tailshaft which would require disassembling the tranny or gettin a 2wd transmission

you could leave the transfer case in there, so if you even decided to go back to 4x4, all you half to do is remove the front differential, driveshaft and halfshafts and install 2wd hubs, the hubs are the most IMPORTANT part, 4wd hubs will NOT work.
