Default 4x4 transfer case in awd Escalade

Looking at different options to ditch the awd case that’s stock in the 09 Escalade for a 4wd unit and I’m hoping to get opinions on it from the brain trust.

The easiest option looks to be grabbing one out of a similar year Silverado but I wonder how difficult it would be to wire up a switch for the electric shift... Would it be a giant headache to make a simplle harness to run the OEM Silverado 2H/4H/4L selector? Or would I be stuck with a simple universal on/off switch?

Obviously another awd case would be easiest if I could find a Torsen unit from a trailblazer SS or something but they’re a bit harder to come across and about 4x more expensive.

If I was ok with spending more I’d look at the 263hd or something from an HD truck but would still need to run electric shift to avoid adding holes to the floorboard.

Mostly settled on 4x4 over an awd unit but I’d like to hear opinions on the options available and things I should consider that I may have missed.

Thanks guys

Why do you want to leave AWD behind?

This lol.

For starters, the truck is has two turbos on her and I don’t trust the stock transfer case. Also, the stock transfer case is essentially an open diff so if you lose a front CV the whole truck isn’t moving anywhere.

The TB SS awd case would solve this but… no burnouts.

I also use the truck at the boat ramp regularly and the option for 4L is appealing.

You need a front diff with CAD, to make this work the best. CAD in the GMT800 is just a 12v "on" command and 0v "off". I would suspect the GMT900 is the same way

you can use an NP241 manual case. 32 spline from behind a manual trans or 4L80 GMT400

according to Jim at Zero Gravity Performance the 6L80 calculates speed internally so the trans will still shift in 4lo

Atomic messaged me about this...I'm working on it. Technically I've already done it, albeit coming from a different case.

for simplicity, the manual t-case is the easiest to make work. i believe the electronic 4x4 is a body control module thing, so yours would need a reprogram... and likely would anyway because those open-carrier BW AWD units either used traction control or brakes (depending on year) to "torque manage" & would likely freak out with the 4x4 unit.

Turned out...very uneventful. Pretty simple little things. Don't have a case to test it on any more but will work fine.

Now lets see if Atomic wants to fund the mass production effort

So how can a guy like me (caveman level electronics skills) get that working?
