Default 5.3 to 6.0 or 6.2 swap

I have a 2005 z71 with 250k on it, the motor is getting very loud and starts knocking if it idles to long, chances are I could fix it but I tow a lot with it and really want more power. I'm looking to swap to a 6.0 or 6.2. I know there's a lot of different versions of the 6.0 and 6.2 I was wondering what the differences are? And how hard is it to convert the truck to a 6.0 or 6.2, is it just a matter of changing the computer or do I need a different transmission, I have a built 4l65e in it right now so I'm not worried about it handling more power. Any input would be greatly appreciated

Lq4 or lq9 are the most straightforward swaps. 6.2s will have different crank reluctor and sensors in different places making it a more costly and involved swap.

Don't know if there is a whole lot of difference between the two. Some early 6.0s had iron heads which weren't as desirable as the aluminum heads.

This thread tells what the internal differences are such as flat top of dish pistons and different rods.

Throw some 10w40 in it, it'll stop knocking/lifter ticking.

Transmission is giving trouble and rearend started humming, changing fluid in both neither have gotten better. I've decided that I like having a paid-off truck to much to buy a new one and am looking for a 3/4 ton 4wd donor truck. I found a good low mileage 2006 but it is 2wd with an 8.1 and an Allison, will this setup bolt into my truck and bolt onto my transfer case?

Fitting the Allison would require a body lift and other mods. It has its own tcm/computer so the wiring would be a lot more complicated also.

Easiest and cheapest route would be to get an LQ4 slap some 243/799 heads on it for 10:1 compression and throw a baby cam in it. 216/220ish. Thing will be a tq/towing monster. you can reuse intake manifold, coils, injectors etc off the 5.3.

The 6.2 has a larger 4.065 bore with the same 3.62 stroke as 6.0. Biggest difference is it has square port heads L92 and intake to match. IMO cathedral port heads are the way to go for lowend/towing power.
