Default 5spd 4x4 to t56

I know I have seen some folks upgrade 4.8 5 spds to t56's my question is, with the t56 being longer is it even a consideration to upgrade to that transmission behind a 4x4?

thx.

the transfer case wont bolt up to it. this topic has been discussed MANY times, just search for it. No one has done it yet, need to make a new tailshaft housing which would be pretty damn expensive.

edit: ok so I see that the question is is it a consideration to upgrade to a t56 behind a 4x4. If I could buy a 4x4 and swap it out to a t56, I would. As I'm sure many others would. Some of us need to have a truck with 4x4, and to have a nice shorter throwing t56 would be nice.

I feel the best thing would be to use a remote mount xfer case. Something like an Atlas tcase maybe?
