Default 6 speed complete

I Just got my T56 finished tuesday. And is it Awesome. It was pretty much straight forward going from a 5 spd to a 6spd. I used an '06 gto tranny that had less than 300 miles. The most difficult part of swap was cutting the hole and getting the bell housing on. It wouldn't fit at first because of clearance issues with my starter, but a little grinding took care of that. I tried to use an f-body shifter, but because of the piece that goes on the shift rail is different on the gto, I had to use the gto shifter assembly, which moved the shifter assembly back about an inch or two. However it turned out to be the perfect location, I hardly even have to reach for the shift lever. I even think that the gear ratio is lower in the gto t56, than the f-body t56s, first gear is awesome with this 4.8L. I can't even fathom why gm didn't even at least offer this tranny as an option, it just fell into place. Now if I had my ls6 in the truck.

I just love to drive my now, its totally different than it was before, i'm still learning how to drive it because it shifts so much quicker than the ol' 5. I almost wish that I had installed my engine at the same time. But I didn't want all that headache at one time.

That is awesome man. So do U have any pictures of your install?

Love to see the job you did and how the shifter looks.

Good for you , glad to hear it worked out well and that you like it. I just bought a t56 for my truck , and am going to install it as soon as I get all my ducks in a row. Can you use the truck pressure plate and just change the clutch disk to match up splines ?
