Default 60E vs 80E

In terms of pure acceleration with all things being equal gear ratio and convertor stall. Does the 80E have a acceraltion advantage over the 60E with the closer ratio of the gears? Or does the deeper 1st gear of the 60 get you out far enough to keep ahead?

Also does the 80 feel better driving around town or tossing the corners? Or just making hard lefts if you prefer NASCAR.

I know strength is not even in the same ball park even with a ninja level-17 60E.

I dont have the post off the top of my head, but thunder550 did the comparison

5.3 w/radix and 4l60e vs. 6.0 w/radix and 4l80e ...both ran the same time I believe mid 13s but the 4l80e mph was higher. Basically as he put it, the 4l80e with an N/A engine is a turd around town. This worries me. Maybe he will chime in here.

the 80e has the taller 1st gear.

To be honest you dont notice it being a slug with the 80e. I did kinda notice a little bit when I really really focused on it but its so minimal of a difference that its not even worth worrying about for the stability of the 80e. Mine being behind a 6.0 may make a difference but its not like I have to flog the truck to get it moving, part throttle and Im still moving quicker than anyone else

if you're going to do it do it. The 80e is stronger and IMO its worth it to worry about the rear end exploding more than the trans. Its easier to do a rear end swap than a trans swap

Yeah, but didn't you swap the 6.0 at the same time?

yes.

I even said that maybe theres a difference since its behind a 6.0.

I honestly dont think it being behind a smaller cube motor would make enough difference for him to be pissed about the swap.

IMO the 80e out performs the 60e in all areas. Around town, on the highway, part throttle, full throttle. Great shifts, crisp, and quick. Kick downs are a dream. Little more weight, runs a little warmer and a small performance hit out of the hole. A small price to pay for the increased strength and performance.

dude, get the EFI live software. Tuning the trans is a breeze. If you don't have $550 now....save up and don't do another mod until you get the software! It's a necessity IMO looking back now.

I have found that I CAN NOT tune.. haha it just doesnt work. I've tried with HPTuners and from what I understand EFI is WAY easier, but I rather take my **** to a pro, have him dick with it, put it on the dyno and know Im getting the most for the money. And if anything goes wrong, not my fault
