Dub, why not just place the FLT level 5 65E in and place a little TM in the program. Or at least just have some TM for street driving and take out the TM for the track.
You have the ability to tune on your own right? If I had the money, that's what I'd do.

I think ive decided on a combo. For a 65e and a new converter its going to cost me the same as what a 80e, converter, and conversion kit will cost. I like the peace of mind thought of the 80e. I think im going to go with a FLT stage 3 80e, along with a Vig 10.5 2400-2800 stall....not sure on the stall yet. Then ill order the conversion from speed engineering and be done with it. I figure down the road ill end up with a 408, so why not build the tranny now and eliminate more down time in the future?

You will need the harness and flexplate spacer also. If oyu have access to a welder modify your stock crossmember.

Get the wiring harness from Speartech. Its the same as price as the one from Speed Eng. but the price includes shipping. You can get the dipstick and tube from the dealer and it will be cheaper since you won't have to pay for shipping. You can also get the spacer from the dealer. Don't forget the longer bolts that go with it.

We have almost the exact same set up, except I have an lq4. The 80e absolutely sucks out of the hole. A converter is just going to create wheelspin unless you have traction bars and run some type of drag radials on the street. I have a 2800 stall.

I can almost guarentee you that your mph in the 1/4 will go up and ET down with everything else held constant. My 1/8 mile times suck, but the truck runs really well up top. With only 448rwhp I was trapping 108+ in the 1/4.

The 80e is a blast to drive on the freeway and has much better trnasition into gears. The 65e absolutely sucks between gear shifts. The 80e "supposedly" takes an additional 20-25hp to turn as well.

For a piece of mind, do an 80e. For the best performance, go 65e. I honestly dont think a 4l65 will live for an extented period of time in a heavy 6L truck. I should know, I went through 5 of them.

Think long and hard bro. The determing factor for me would be your driving habits. If you drive hard, get an 80e. Just be prepared to be sluggish out of the hole.

With a 65e on the street with a 2wd dont you have to "walk-it" out of the hole anyway? Only place I see it really being a factor is onthe track and well i dont know about ya'll but I have fun on the street putting sports cars in their place
