a question before i do it.

cruising rpms at 70-80 mph?

im sure someone has done it on here. before someone says something, i am not changing the stall for quite sometime. so this will have to do for a while, if the highway rpms are within my range

You don't need to worry about the high end as much since 6th is such a high gear. Lot of guys complain about shifting into 5th while cruising cause the engine can't keep turning it, but with 4.10s that shouldn't be a problem. Your 1st gear on the other hand...it's going to be completely useless. lol

I'm thinking of going with the same gear for my AWD. A lot of people say (understandably) that 1st gear will be useless, because we have a low (4.07:1, I think). In your case with the 2wd you should be able to leave two nice stripes whenever you launch it off the line.
But, GM offers the 4.10s as a factory option in the 2500 series with the 6.0 VVT and 6L90E trans, which as far as I know, has the same first gear as the 6L80Es in our trucks. That gear change takes the max tow load from 9600 to 13,000, so that gives you an indication of the torque increase at the wheels. I say slap 'em in and make plenty of smoke!

The 2010 Camaro guys are running 3.73 and 4.10s behind the 6L80. General rule of thumb for them is 3.73 for the auto cars but they also have shorter wheels and some still go 4.10.

What tire size you running, that makes a difference?

For instance, I am going 4.11s, but I run 305/50R20s.

The 6th gear of 0.667 with my 32.00" tires will put me around 2015 at 70 mph.

I have Yukon 4.11s and a Yukon Master Kit already, waiting on the TruTrac.

Here is how it calcs out, I say put them in and let it rip!

i spend most of my time in 6th gear in the truck. anything above 40 it's in 6th. to me it pulls fine for mild mannered cruising. anywho! it hammers the tires in 1st gear as it is. second gear is going to be the problem with the 4.10's.

before i pull the trigger on this, the shop i frequent ordered the ring and pinion. so it's sitting down there now. motive p/n gm9.5-4.10 for anyone else curious.

i cant find a 3.90 for the 9.5" or id go with that... 373 is not enough for me to make the jump

IMO this is the best calculator... easy to use.... http://www.f-body.org/gears/

if you have a 275/55/20 tire like me... you would pull 2000 rpms at 69 mph and 2300 at 79mph... not too bad....
