I think your right. But it will show a weak or under performing solenoid.

Not everyone has these i'm thinking of making one for myself. Also the dealer can test the Techm for you

Ok I pulled the trans and took it to a local shop for a tear down and inspection. He said I did a good job on the rebuild and didn't see anything wrong other than the burnt up 456 clutches. I asked if they could test the valve body solenoids and they said they couldn't. I'll see if a local GM dealer can this week. I might bite the bullet and get the billet 456 hub that holds the larger power glide frictions. If the valve body tests good, then I guess it needs more pressure in the tune.

Tune is key because I read on another forum that a guy installed the PG hub and he burnt the clutches on it with a bad tune.

Anybody know if you can swap 6l90 parts into a 6l80? 456 hub?

I'm thinking about having Mike at Century Transmission put his tune in it via email. Do you know anybody that has used him?

Did you do the Sonnax 4-5-6 apply piston kit? Yeah I have talked to Mike about these transmissions and he should be able to tune it but I have no experience or know anybody that has.

Alot of the parts are the same... But the 6l90 cases are longer to accomodate the extra clutches in the 4-5-6 drum and 1-2-3-4/3-5-R drum as well as the taller rear planetaries.. Although i think i read somewhere in si that the number of clutches in them are application specific, not sure if it meant 45/50 vs 80 vs 90 or if it meant that a 6l80 in certain applications could have extra clutches...
