Red face 7 speed for vette 2013

Iv herd that the 2013 vettes are getting new 7 speed trannys very cool. I was thinking that mabe the 7 speed will work its way to the 2013 gm trucks this would be a even better than 6 speed one more gear and hopefully it would eliminate the gear hunting issue.

I heard Ford is looking into an 8 speed for the Power Chokes at some point. I really don't see the need for all these gears. They are going to have these things acting like fully loaded big rigs taking off from a stop having to go through every gear whether it needs to or not. 5 evenly spaced gears is more than sufficient. They need to bring back the 4L80E and figure out a way of adding a .67:1 double OD to it. That would be just about as perfect as you can get IMO.

Yes, the Germans/Japanese use stuff in those transmissions that the US automakers won't even be considering for 5 or so year.

The Powerstrokes just got a new trans last year with the introduction of the 6.7 TD and the 6.2 gasser. It's a ZF built 6spd auto that's freaking massive... Much bigger internals than even the few Allisons I've been into. It's called the Torqshift6 and carries the numerical designation of 6R140. Its got some things going on inside it that I really with GM would look at for even the lighter transmissions.

To put it into perspective, there are special adapters to lift the tq converter, pump, and various geartrain parts out of the trans because they're so damn big and they don't want you picking them up... The trans and transfer case bolted together sitting on my table is about 6th long by itself...

Ill have to admitt like you said how manny gears do you need but then agin if it saves gas and has more power then its a good deal. As for the relese date of the new gm trucks im pretty sure its 2013 at least thats what motor trend and pickuptrucks.com say it is but then agin who knows.

My God, I hope not. My 2011 Tahoe has the 6 speed auto in it and I hate it. ****** is constantly hunting for a gear with slight changes in throttle position.

Me...........I think the 4 speed autos are/where the ****!

Extra od gears after the base 4 speed would be better for mileage I suppose.
