70k miles and never changed gear oil
Well my parents are the original owners of a 2003 Z71 Suburban and it now has 70k miles with the original front/rear diffs and trans fluids. Now that I am using this truck to tow my race car more and more I think I need to do some PM
My first question is what are the recommended brands/viscosity that work well for the truck?
Second question is what are the fluid capacities? for the life of me, I cannot find them in the manual.
What else would be recommended to make this a pretty reliable tow vehicle in the future?
thanks guys
-Sean

5 quarts for the tranny dex3 non-synthetic castrol or mobil work well in gm trannies.
about 2-2 1/2 qts for each of the diffs 75w-90 the gm stuff is a synthetic that works just fine.
if you are servicing the tranny you may consider adding an additional cooler in line with the factory cooler to help keep the temps down. a good cooler is to find a tranny cooler out of a ford 6.0 powerstroke diesel since it is about as big as a a/c condenser.
the best thing you can do is never tow in OD and push that tow/haul button.

Thanks, How much should I be looking to spend on the oil cooler, or would I be better off getting a new aftermarket one? I'm no stranger to fabrication, so shoot me some ideas.

look around on ebay type in ford tranny cooler, and 6.0 tranny cooler. should come up with several results I'm sure you could get one for about $100 and its about 2-3 times bigger than a $50 aftermarket piece. you may check your local junk yards as well.
