Default 8.6 Carrier bearings

Would anybody have issues with using Federal Mogul carrier bearings?

I ordered a master kit that had Timken bearings but got the wrong kit. Appears to be for a 8.5 carrier anyway the bearings won't fit. I got the Federal bearings shipped with the carrier when I bought it.

The master install kit also came with the cover gasket and it doesn't have the little holes on both sides for oiling the bearings. Think I need them for an 8.6?

The BEST thing you can do is pull your old bearings take them to the autoparts store and match them up. Closet Red Neck had ALOT of problems with these so-called install kits and when mine was done it was also the wrong one. I wouldnt bother with the install kits, just buy a shim kit and some gear paint and go on down the road, much cheaper too.

I also got the wrong carrier bearings in my install kit. I ended up getting the correct ones from Oreily's, but don't recall the brand name. They may have been federal mogul...I know they weren't timken.

BTW, Oreily's sold the bearing and race seperately.

I'm into it a little bit. Rear cover off and the wheels and brake stuff off. Ready to pull the axles... as soon as I can get the spider gears out... quit when i couldn't get on the dang little 8mm bolt for the pinion shaft.

I am just gonna go with the federal bearings.

I am going to check the backlash on the stock gears before I pull them. Do I do this with the axles in or out?

Axles out is fine, seen it done that way many times at the local offroad place with good results.

do you have a g80? if so u dont need to pull the spider gears out just takeout the lil bolt holding the pin in then take the pin out. then push your axles in and take the c-clips out.then take your caps off and there you are.

Yes, its a G80. Already had it out when I read this post. You are right don't have to pull the spider gears.
