Did that HD crossmember bolt into the factory 1/2 ton locations? What did you have to do to use it, rather than chop & weld the stocker?(which looks kinda butch usually)

he used am HD crossmember and modified that but this thread is almost 2 years old and i bummped for ***** and gigs

Haha, I always hit the "new posts" button. Missed that it was an old thread. I remember when Pat did this, but I never asked back then. Just wondering what had to be done to use that crossmember.

from what he told me just modded the HD member a little and it worked fine. i had to to some research tonight since i lost my first 60e but cant complain with a few miles from 100k on the cluster

Thanks for the props guys. The x member is off a 4wd....which is necessary due to pad height. I made the adapter plates bolted it to the trans and used the shims to set pinion angle. Then I marked the frame...drilled it for the bolts. I used the oem nuts and bolts. A tip for drilling... 3/16 or 1/4 pilot hole. Then use a unibit. It cuts thru the frame like butter. I did not modify the x member one bit. Just had to make the adapter plates/shims.

That sounds too easy. Thanks for the info, if I ever need the 80E I will go this route.

the strapsteel i used was 3/8 and 1/8 iirc. there are many ways to do it there...but plan on about one inch of spacer material.....one of these days ill make a nice one out of solid aluminum.
