Default 80e swap front driveshaft

this could be a stupid question buy i don't hear about this as much as everything else, when a 4x4 does the 80e swap, do you have to modify the front driveshaft to be longer? or will the original fit well enough?

from my understanding both driveshafts have to be modified front made longer and the rear shorter.

Should all be the same, its bolts to the t-case and the diff, so that wont be a problem, I duno on newer stuff, but on the older trucks u have to change the t-case cause they have more splines on the output shaft. Everything else should be the same as far as length tho!

front has to be lengthened rear has to be shortened. The driveshaft shop just retubed my front driveshaft and re-used the yokes and ujoints. And cut my rear stocker down, then high speed balanced it. They are for sale too, I went back to a 60e after getting rid of my stroker motor.

What you are talking about is the output shaft on the 80e is larger so you have to take the tcase apart and swap the input gear to match the larger diameter output shaft of the 80e. Which I also have for sale.

For some reason the shorter rear yoke didn't work for me. My rear shaft was still about 2" too long. The front deffinetly needs to be lengthened. I think I needed to have my front lengthened about 2".

(*****, selling **** :jest)

best way is to take to a driveline shop (big diesel repair shops usually have balancers on site) and have them do as cody has described. IMO, a high speed balance and proper build is the best way. If you don't lengthen it, it MAY work for you but it will be dangerously on the edge of the outputs. Not enough seating may cause bigger problems 100's or 1000's of miles later.

Don't forget to take your measurements with vehicle on ground, loaded.

It cost me about 400 for the new front shaft and balance and the rear being cut down and balanced.
